RACE

... and I don't mean, this time, the political race, though that remains anxiously on my mind (see the excellent Tom Friedman op-ed piece in today's New York Times).

But no, I'm thinking about America's race problem. Are we finally talking about it? MSNBC offered a good start in its special with Chris Hayes and Joy Reid last night. One hour was not nearly enough. The show was bursting out of its seams, leaving this one viewer to want more from every one of the participants; and more such frank talk.

And... are we finally doing something about it? ABC's prompt action in canceling Roseanne Barr's show after her repugnant Tweet suggests that corporate America may be finally paying attention.

We can no longer hide from this. Since Trayvon Martin's death in 2012, the killing of young black American men no longer escapes media attention... but it still continues. The absence of justice and the perversion of proper police training and procedures grows more glaring by the day.

And yet, and yet... "we"--Americans--have elected a "president" who spouts vile racist comments as easily as he spouts lies. That the media is calling him out on it is not enough. We--Americans--must examine our own souls. And we must take the responsibility to vote out racism and all those who embrace it in our coming and future elections.

If we disagree on the best, we must VOTE FOR THE MOST ELECTABLE of Democrats!
